I Heart Green and Gold

I'm an A's fan, a pretty big one. I won't be able to tell you all the stats about the team and the individual players, and I don't know any of the history of the team before 1989 when I was six years old and saw Mark McGwire hit a grand slam in the Oakland Coliseum. But I am a fan nonetheless. Heck, I was even conceived during an A's game. Its in my DNA.

When my Dad moved to Berkeley two years ago, it really renewed my love for the baseball and the A's. I probably went to half a dozen games with my family, and that was really special. Having lived far from Oakland for the majority of my life, I loved finally getting to sit on the first base line with my dad and drink cold beer in the hot sun.

Now that I am 3,000 miles from Oakland, I think I'm clinging to the A's even more. The Nationals just haven't done it for me, even though I thoroughly enjoyed the ten games I went to. I can't go to A's games anymore, I can't even watch the games on TV, but I'm still a fan. The A's remind me of home, and they remind me of being six years old and watching that ball fly off McGwire's bat.

This year the A's have made it to the post season, and actually have a chance to get into the World Series. I'm really invested in this season, I really want to see them win. And if the A's screw it up, I'm going to be a very unhappy camper for the next few weeks.
